During this 7 week part time course you’ll learn the principles and processes of how to create a successful interior design concept. You'll learn the fundamentals of design history, explore different materials that enhance your interior style and look at current interior trends which you will then apply to the design of your own space.
You’ll be introduced to design history, explore materials, elements and trends, and develop research in preparation for creating a design solution of your own. Learn the drawing techniques you need to develop and visualise an interior space, and combine these with your research to create an engaging design solution
Walk away with relevant skills that can be applied to renovations, remodeling, real estate staging and assisting buyers with decisions about colour and interior décor.
Course Highlights:
This course is the first and only Interior Design Micro-credential in New Zealand.
Once you have completed this course, you will have an NZQA Certificate in Interior Design - Level 5 (Micro-credential), worth 7 credits.
After graduating, you will be able to use the foundation knowledge learnt in this course to apply Interior Design principles to small-scale projects. You will also be fully equipped for further study at higher levels (Level 5 and 6).

Live online classes are a friendly and supportive alternative to watching video tutorials – you’re able to ask questions and receive answers from an experienced Interior Design industry professional in real time. Your mentor will share their screen, demonstrating professional tools and techniques, then support you as you follow along, completing activities during class time.

Students are required to have a scale ruler, a general paper supply and a range of pencils and fineliners for this course.

Learners will be eligible to enter this Micro-credential if they:
Are at least 16 years old, and
Have basic computer skills and an interest in interior design, and
Hold NCEA Level 2 or equivalent evidence that they have the ability to succeed in the micro-credential Students with English as a second language require IELTS 5.5 (General or Academic) with no band lower than 5.0.

Completed Enrolment Form - Upon application we will ask you to complete an enrolment form.
Verified Form of ID - We require certified copies of your identity and residency documentation. This can be a valid passport or birth certificate.
Proof of NZ Residency or Citizenship - If not stated on your passport of birth certificate, you will also need to provide proof of citizenship/residency in New Zealand if applying as a domestic student.

Lauren currently works as a Senior Commercial Designer at Outline Design specialising in workspace design. After graduating from Durban University of Technology in South Africa, she worked in the commercial design industry for 5 years before moving to New Zealand at the end of 2013. Lauren has many years of experience as an Interior Design Lecturer both in NZ and in South Africa. Passionate about functional & beautiful spatial design, Lauren has 7 years commercial experience and 12 years overall as an Interior Designer.
