Not sure which creative path is right for you? Our Certificate in Creative Media (Level 4) lets you explore design, animation, film, marketing and digital media through hands-on projects, building foundational skills before choosing where to specialise.
In this programme, you'll:
Develop your creative ideas – explore creative thinking, design principles, research and idea development, and learn how to respond to creative briefs.
Tell stories through film and animation – develop foundational skills in visual storytelling, shooting, editing, animation, movement and motion.
Create for different audiences – explore creative marketing, digital content, user experience, visual communication and culturally responsive creative practice.
Work across creative disciplines – bring film, animation, design and digital media skills together through collaborative creative projects.
Build your portfolio – select, develop and present your creative work while reflecting on your skills and areas for further development.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive the New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design* (Level 4).

What you'll learn
Get hands-on with the fundamentals of visual design and digital production. You’ll explore composition, colour, typography and image-making, using photography to strengthen your understanding of visual design. You’ll also start developing character design skills and work with Adobe Creative Suite as you learn digital workflows, file management, prototyping and presentation.
Bring stories to life through animation, moving images and motion graphics. You’ll explore animation principles, character movement, camera operation, shot types, composition, storyboarding, scripting and editing. You’ll also develop your understanding of screen language, continuity and visual storytelling, combining these skills to create a short, engaging visual story.
Create content for digital platforms and audiences, building on the design and storytelling skills you’ve already developed. You’ll explore audience research, user experience, simple digital interfaces and social media. You’ll further develop skills in shooting, editing, motion graphics and animation, and learn how to combine different media to create engaging content for online audiences.
Put your skills to work on a collaborative creative project. You’ll plan, produce and present a completed creative outcome, bringing together design, film, animation and digital media. You’ll develop your work through feedback and build a portfolio that showcases your creative skills, development and strongest work - giving you a strong foundation for progressing into further creative study.

Learners will be eligible to enter this programme if they:
Are at least 16 years old
Have basic computer skills and an interest in design
Hold NCEA Level 2 or
An equivalent qualification, or relevant experience and/or capability or
New Zealand Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 3)
Students with English as their second language require IELTS 5.5 (General or Academic) with no band lower than 5.0.
Software:
Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Toon Boom Harmony, Microsoft 360 and Figma
Equipment:
Allocated camera equipment for Level 4, PC or Apple computers, digital devices
