Five young Kiwis have just kicked off six weeks’ work experience with global powerhouses Facebook & Snapchat as part of their studies at Yoobee Colleges.
The students are undertaking the externships as part of the final weeks of Yoobee’s year-long Diploma in Creative Marketing, which can either be studied on its own or as part of a brand-new three-year Bachelor of Digital Innovation. From 2022, externships will be exclusive to the Bachelor of Digital Innovation.
Externships are carried out remotely and give students the opportunity to navigate real-world projects in their own time from the comfort of their own home, while getting regular access to guidance and mentorship from movers and shakers at Facebook and Snapchat.
“The first week was nerve-wracking but so exciting,” says externship student Sarah Burnett. “It’s crazy being able to apply my skills learnt at Yoobee to this professional experience at Facebook. Meeting the Facebook staff has been awesome, and I already know how much I will take away from this experience.”

The first phase of the externships has already been busy for the students, who have submitted a number of tasks to the teams at Facebook and Snapchat, while balancing the demands of full-time study and part-time work.
“I love how flexible it is, meaning I can work in my own time as long as I meet deadlines. I’ve already completed my first project with outstanding feedback!” says student Georgia Sytema.
After completing their externships and ultimately achieving a Diploma in Creative Marketing, students have the option to extend their studies by enrolling in Yoobee’s Bachelor of Digital Innovation, which rounds out their knowledge in business, tech and marketing over a further two years. Externships are now exclusive to the Bachelor of Digital Innovation programme.
Across all its faculties and courses, Yoobee is committed to equipping students with the hands-on experience they need to hit the ground running when they graduate.
These remote externship opportunities are an example of this, giving students the skills, experience and professional network, they need to land their dream job, with externship alumni globally landing jobs at places like Tesla, PwC, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Microsoft and Google.
